Job summary
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering with a focus on applied science. This role involves applying scientific principles to solve complex mechanical engineering challenges, contributing to the development of innovative products, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will have a passion for pushing the boundaries of applied science in the field of mechanical engineering. 
He/She will provide technical support in mechanical engineering to the Applied Science Department under innovations, implementation, training and overall set up of different projects.

Key Result Areas
1. Research and Development Carry out research and develop market ready products for Applied Science under the classification below;
  • Enhanced Science Curriculum tools
  • Robot prototypes
  • Systems that solve a problem 
2. Product Development: Collaborate with product development teams to design, analyze, and optimize mechanical components and systems. Ensure the integration of cutting-edge applied science concepts into product designs. 

3. Simulation and Modeling: Utilize advanced simulation and modeling techniques to predict and analyze the behavior of mechanical systems under various conditions. Validate models through experimentation and testing.

4. Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest developments in applied science and engineering. Identify and propose innovative solutions to improve product performance, efficiency, and reliability. 

5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and senior Associates, to integrate applied science concepts seamlessly into new Mechanics systems. 

6. Prototyping and Testing: Lead the development and testing of prototypes to validate applied science concepts. Analyze test data and iterate designs to achieve optimal performance.

7. Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of research, design, and testing activities. Communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

8. Quality Assurance: Ensure that products meet high-quality standards by implementing rigorous testing protocols and collaborating with quality assurance teams.

9. Provide technical support in form of Tool Installation, maintenance and repair to schools running the Fundi Bots Programs under the guidance of the Senior Associates, Regional Manager or Applied Science Manager.

10. Participate in the onboarding of teaching Associates, interns and other trainees in the Applied Science department.
Who we are looking for
Academic Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree/ Certificate/ Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience and Skills
  • 2-3 years’ experience in practical Mechanics
  • Knowledge in Mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge in Electronic engineering and computer programming is an added advantage
  • Experience with CAD tools like solid works, fusion 360 or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in simulation and modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL).
  • Experience with prototyping and testing methodologies.
  • Creative thinking and a passion for pushing the boundaries of mechanical engineering.
  • Experience with machine learning or artificial intelligence applications in mechanical engineering.
